Reiki allows you to channel a higher, more refined energy to yourself or others to heal or cleanse negativties from your body. These negativities or blockages are often the cause of illness or disease.

During a reiki workshop you recieve an atunement. An atunement is a process where energy is channeled to your main energy gate, your crown chakra, which is opened and allows you to receive reiki or universal energy ... often also referred to as divine energy.

Reiki will from then on flow continuously into your body.

The atunement also opens the central energy channel (your sushumna) and the channel to the palms so that the energy can flow out from the palms.

In many alternative or holistic health modalities energetic impurity, or energetic negativities or blockages are the underlying cause of illness. Reiki, a very intelligent energy, will automatically flow there and reduce these causes and related issues, stimulating our capacity to heal.

The more you can learn on how to become a better channel of this energy, the greater the capacity to channel and heal will be.
